Gili Asahan is at the Western tip of the Sekotong peninsula and the closest to Bali island. It is about 1.5km away from the mainland which in this part of Lombok consists of sparsely inhabited lush rolling hills. Gili Asahan only has a single village where 30 families live. There are no roads, just a few trails across the island. Consequently there are no vehicles on the island, not even horse carts. The only prevailing sounds are made by the birds, the ocean and rustling tree branches.
